In this 3 day workshop we will do a deep dive into the basics of soldering. You will leave with an understanding of the tools used, techniques for heating, hardening, forming and soldering sterling silver. You will create a total of 6 projects, 5 will be guided projects and the final project will be your own design using the concepts learned during the course.
Class sizes are small. Only 4 students! So one on one instruction is easily provided. One of my favorite aspects of my workshops.
Friday, January 26 6-8:30pm : Create a ring shank. (Stacking rings!)
In our first lesson we will create stacking rings. The process is the perfect starting point for learning to solder metals and getting to know the equipment. You will make up to 5 rings so you can truly perfect the process.
Saturday, January 27
10am-1pm : Prong settings for cabachons or found objects
We will create 2 projects in this lesson. We will expand on the previous lesson by creating a prong setting for earrings and a pendant necklace. Using sterling silver, we will create baskets to house and frame found objects or cabochon. We will then polish and set the stones.
2pm-5:30pm: Bezel Settings
In this lesson we will continue our stone setting practice by creating bezel settings. You will have the opportunity to make a ring or a pendant for a cabochon using sterling silver.
Sunday, January 28
10-12pm: Tube Settings
This lesson will cover setting faceted stones in a tube setting. This lesson will expand our experience with the rotary tool and provide the know how to add beautiful sparkle to simple settings. We will create lovely pendants with sterling silver tubing and bails.
1pm-5pm Student Project
This will be your opportunity to design and create your own piece of jewelry using any (or all) of the techniques learned over the weekend. I will be available to trouble shoot, review and guide you along your way. This final lesson will be your chance to test your new skills and fine tune your abilities while giving your creativity a chance to shine.
All materials and tools will be provided for this course. No experience is necessary and all levels are welcome. You will leave this weekend exhausted but with a full heart and a new set of skills to help kick start your new creative journey!
